Unilever’s OMO brand made waves by debuting on Roblox, a popular metaverse-style gaming platform that’s increasingly attracting brands looking to engage younger demographics. In collaboration with the game agency Evolution Group, OMO created an interactive experience tying laundry capsules into a quest-like mechanic, aiming to teach and entertain while aligning with real-life household responsibilities.

Why OMO Entered Roblox

As Roblox evolves into a global hub for digital culture and commerce, many brands see it as a golden opportunity to reach diverse, tech-savvy users. OMO recognized that a growing segment of the Roblox player base in the Middle East—and worldwide—would soon be stepping into more adult roles, including doing laundry. This opened a door to connect brand messaging with daily responsibilities1 in a playful, memorable format.

“Gaming sits at the intersection of culture, community, and commerce, creating a powerful space for brand engagement,” says Aisha Kandil, Marketing Manager at Unilever. “By integrating our OMO capsules into the game, we boost product visibility and usage in an interactive, memorable way, shaping the future of consumer connections.”

Turning OMO Capsules into a Core Game Mechanic

Rather than opting for traditional in-game ads or banners, OMO emphasized a seamless narrative that reflects its real-world three-in-one capsule functionality:

  1. Collecting Capsule Pieces
Players must find three fragments of an OMO capsule to unlock in-game battles—a nod to OMO’s triple-action formula designed to tackle stains, odors, and bacteria.

  2. OMO-Branded Weapons
Armed with OMO-marked tools, participants fight off “dirty bosses” symbolizing stubborn dirt and microbes. This approach merges brand messaging with an entertaining challenge.

  3. Retro Arcade Inspiration
With a style reminiscent of classic Super Mario Bros, the game invites younger users to discover how cleaning can be fun. It weaves nostalgic elements into modern gameplay, tying a sense of achievement to everyday tasks like laundry.

Measuring Success: Engagement and Beyond

With a focus on the United Arab Emirates, OMO tracked key engagement metrics to gauge success:

  • 60,000+ Players joined the experience, each averaging over 10 minutes per session—an indication of strong retention.
  • Influencer Collabs with Division, Nabil Moutran, and Joe Abboud drew longer play sessions (exceeding 30 minutes in some cases) and boosted viral reach.
  • Real-World Impact was monitored through game completion rates, user-generated content (UGC), and social sentiment. OMO analyzed how players interacted with the brand’s digital items, as well as influencer-led streams and posts that sparked broader discussion of OMO’s integration.

Lessons in Digital Activation

Samantha Billingham of Evolution Studios highlights key takeaways:

  • Test & Learn: Roblox’s evolving nature makes continuous iteration crucial. Developers should adapt to shifting platform algorithms, user preferences, and local policies.
  • Balancing Localization & Global Discoverability: Serving up local experiences (e.g., region-specific leaderboards or events) can increase retention in priority markets, while simultaneously leveraging Roblox’s global accessibility to broaden overall reach.
  • Organic Integration: Embedding brand elements into the gameplay loop resonates more with gamers compared to overt product placement or static ads.

Charting the Future of Metaverse Engagement

OMO’s Roblox activation signals that gaming ecosystems are no longer niche but a central channel for brand storytelling and consumer immersion. By merging daily chores with digital adventures, OMO transforms laundry into an interactive learning moment—a preview of how marketing, entertainment, and education could blend in future metaverse experiences.

“Games aren’t just for kids. As Roblox’s audience matures, it provides the perfect canvas for brand messaging aligned with real-life duties,” notes one industry insider. “OMO’s approach to in-game storytelling effectively demonstrates how businesses can use digital platforms to remain culturally relevant.”
